The United States Approves Another $988 Million in Aid to Ukraine

This news broke on Saturday December 7, 2024. The funds are going towards ammunition, drones, and equipment maintenance. With this The United States has now funded the Ukrainian effort in their war against Russia by $62 billion. This comes at around the same time when Volodymyr Zelenskyy is meeting with President-elect Donald Trump and Emmanual Macron in Paris, on his (Trump’s) trip to Notre Dame Cathedral. The optics of this are bewildering in and of themselves, but then following the weekend into this week, Damascus falls in Syria.

With the end of the Assad regime Russia and Iran have been weakened in the middle east. They were backing Assad but due to the war with Ukraine on Russia’s side and the attacks on Iran and their proxies from Israel and the United States, neither country had resources and or capacity to sure Assad up. Now both Russia and Iran are figuring out how to rebound from their loss of power and access to Syria and that geographical part of the Middle East.
