Earlier this year I published this video where I talked about how standing your ground should be an expectation specifically when being wrongfully oppressed. Most people aren’t going to let anyone push them around for too long, at least I think so. That’s what I felt was happening to me when I published that content. I felt as though an individual in my life at the time was for all intents and purposes trying to bully me. And as someone with free will and autonomy being bullied by someone isn’t something I want to perpetuate in my adult years. So, during the creation of that video I was ready to pay the consequences of society if it meant getting that brother to leave me alone.
It wasn’t that deep and I knew that, but while it was happening I also didn’t care. It ultimately worked itself out but what I have now realized is that episode was the first noticeable occurrence of the following phenomenon. Now, this year, is the first time where I’ve noticeably been involved in scenarios that ultimately don’t orbit around me. I obviously understand that in life and in situations where multiple people are involved, there is always some other dynamic happening outside of ourselves. That said, what I am referring to are happenstances where you are inserted into something for one reason or another.
Maybe you were trying to help someone out and something that should have been quick and easy turned into an entanglement. Or, maybe you’ve experienced entering a conversation or room while something is already happening and you still have to give your contribution even though you may not be directly involved. Ever since the aforementioned incident that’s what I’ve been noticing. Several of my working relationships this year have involved me being a witness to third party dynamics happening to and with the other person.
When I think of why this is happening and why now, I consider the fact that I am more mature now, also that just because it’s being made more clear to me now doesn’t mean this wasn’t already happening. I think about my desire to get a Ph.D and I think about the work of a doctor. A doctor sees patients. He may look for patients to utilize his craft but generally speaking a doctor doesn’t go out making problems he goes out helping or solving them.
I think about how my presence can be a catalyst for change. I also think about the role I play as a citizen to a country. How do I make my country a better place and my countrymen better people? I think about God. Moving forward, should this phenomenon turn into a trajectory and or a thing, and frankly just in general, I am reconsidering my boundaries. I cannot let you brothers run a muck with my emotions. I am happy to serve however I am meant to serve, but don’t be surprised if I can’t help you as much as you think I can or want me to.
You’re never too old to remember or learn to protect your peace. If you give someone an inch they may take that as permission to take a mile and if you don’t have a mile to give, then that person is creating a conflict. People can mistake your kindness for weakness all they want, but don’t actually be weak. Control what you can control and most of the time this means yourself. Some people out here are looking for a savior, a husband, a daddy, and everything in between. You don’t have to be any of those things to anyone you don’t want to be. We’re all in need of something at the end of the day but some of us, myself included, can be delusional and or unaware of the form our help will come in and or how to use that resource when it arrives.
