
Over the course of the last month either directly or indirectly, I’ve been getting the same message, “do less.” I’ve railed against scope creep in my private time and prophetic utterances. In a podcast I recorded I had a business leader and professional flat out tell me that I’m better off refining my current offerings than curating and offering more. And even in my conversations with confidants I’ve been told that I’m doing too much. That was kind of the plan this year though. I wrote out nearly every goal in my heart and mind this year with the expectation of completing them. Part of the point of this year was to do too much.
I say that in a bit of a tongue and cheek manner but the reality is not just for me but for various types of goal oriented people and business professionals, how you start versus how you finish is determined by what is happening in the middle. Somewhere between what you set out to do and finishing is this thing project managers like to call scope creep. Scope creep is the somewhat organic process of a project adopting more responsibilities and or attributes.
