
In civilization dynamics there is theorized to be multiple things that happen to a civilization that may lead to or signify its downfall. One of those things is qualified individuals doing things that they are overqualified to do. The issue with being a large fish in a small pond or an invasive species if you will, is that you disrupt and erode the natural ecosystem of that particular environment. Additionally, not being able to achieve your highest heights also degrades asabiyyah.
The system that you are in collapses under the pressure of you being too big for that world, your world. Some people do this intentionally, while others are relegated to this position by a multitude of factors. A common example of this is under employment. You are too qualified, smart, skilled, and experienced to be doing what you are doing, generally in an under-employment context, but at the same time, you find yourself struggling to get ahead and to find a well-paying job with an appropriate level of responsibilities for your skillset.
