Operating on Win Conditions

I most often encounter this within the context of a game, the idea that to win the game there for all players is a win condition. A win condition is a strategy for victory. It’s reverse engineering your goal. Starting from where you would like to be, how do you get there from where you are now? Being able to start with the end in mind sets a sense of clarity over your decision making. Sometimes you can get caught up in the emotion of a thing without fully considering the reality thereof.

Or maybe you do consider the reality thereof, but it isn’t necessarily in your favor. What’s the worst thing that could happen if you bought that house? If you took that new job? If you took the next step of commitment in your romantic relationship? In addition to knowing how you’re going to win, a win condition also includes what that victory looks like, and how that is a winning scenario. Operating on win conditions is being outcome obsessed. But the outcome must be in your favor.

This is a positive feedback loop way of thinking. Winning is a habit, you are to do it as often as possible. When you quantify your wins you make them more meaningful. Your wins should be personal. You should be able to describe what a win for you is in any circumstance and why it matters to you. Personal doesn’t have to be emotional or sentimental, it just has to hold some significance, large or small.
