You are You

You are you. In fact you are so you that there will never be another you. You are unique in that everything that makes you, you can’t be replicated. Imitated, sure. Derived from, probably. But one to one, apple to apple, and orange to orange is impossible. One time I had this friend of a friend come at me a little crazy. He was salty that me and the actual friend had been friends for years and were pretty close. One day towards the end of me and that friend’s friendship, the friend of the friend must have been feeling himself and said to both of us, “I’m the new Ken now.”  

Firstly, I can’t help but chuckle a little writing that in hindsight because it was like, what? My immediate response to him was, “but you’re you.” Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but flattery has boundaries. Years later here I am still me. Still black, still healthy by the grace of God, and still making my dreams a reality. I don’t know where that young man is today, but I hope he is well, and has come to grips with his own insecurities.
